2024-2025 Gregg Anderson Uniform Policy

Uniforms

Students attending Gregg Anderson Academy are required to wear uniforms.  If unsure about colors or styles, please verify with school personnel prior to purchasing.  School principals have final authority on anything not covered in this policy. 

Please adhere to the following guidelines: Overall rules and regulations - See Westside Union School District dress code for further information

1.  Uniforms must be free of holes, rips or tears of any kind, even if there is material underneath. No tulle, sequins, glitter, lace, sheer, leather, pleather, velvet, ruffles, multilayer skirts, and sparkle.

2.  Collars must be visible at all times.

3. Shoes must adhere to district policy. Crocs may be worn with the strap around the back of the ankle.  (See Parent/Student Handbook). 

4. Tops and bottoms must be in the following solid school colors: navy blue, burgundy, gray, white, black, or khaki. 

5. Only prescription glasses or sunglasses are permitted outside.

Uniform Shirts

1.  Must have a collar. (No sleeveless collared shirts).

2.  Embroidered school logo, optional not required.  No other logos are allowed.

3.  Turtlenecks or long sleeve shirts may be worn under a collared shirt. Sweatshirts may not be worn under a collared shirt or spirit wear. Turtlenecks or long sleeve shirts that are visible must be a solid color in navy blue, burgundy, gray, white, black, or khaki. 

Vests

Solid colored vests in uniform colors are allowed. This includes: navy blue, burgundy, gray, white, black, or khaki. 

Uniform Bottoms

1.  Uniform bottoms may consist of pants, shorts, skirts, capris, skorts, and bermudas. Ponte pants must have pockets. Black denim, yoga pants, overalls, rompers, pajama bottoms and corduroy's are not uniform bottoms and are not allowed.

2.  Students in all grade levels may wear leggings or tights in navy, burgundy, gray, white, black or khaki ONLY UNDER dresses, skirts, or shorts. 

3.  Shorts and skirts must be long enough that when a student is standing up straight with arms at sides, the bottom of shorts or skirt is at least as long as the student's middle finger. Cut off shorts or frayed bottoms are not allowed.

4.  Sweats, athletic wear/athletic material, or yoga pants are not allowed.

5.  Polo dresses may be in navy, burgundy, gray, white, black or khaki. 

Uniform Sweaters/Cardigans

1.  Pull over, zip-up, snap up, button up, velcro snap, or open front sweaters are allowed.

2.  Sweaters without hoodies over a collared shirt in solid school colors (navy blue, burgundy, gray, white, black, or khaki) are allowed.

Uniform Sweatshirts 

1.  Must be a solid zip-up uniform color (navy blue, burgundy, gray, white, black or khaki); or GAA school zip-up sweatshirt; or zip-up from a college campus (doesn’t include NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, etc.)

2.  Zip-up sweatshirts may not be a blended color such as heather gray, a black/white speckled color or two tone.   

3.  Sweatshirts cannot be a pullover sweatshirt of any type.

4.  Sweatshirts are defined as soft, non-waterproof material on the exterior including sherpa.

5.  Sweatshirts cannot have words, lettering, accent colors (such as colorful zippers, hood, etc.) or logos such as Old Navy, Gap, etc.

Coats/Jackets

1. Denim jackets of any color are not allowed.

2. A coat/jacket is defined as outerwear that is only worn outside (weather proof material). A coat or jacket may be any color or have any pattern. Leather jackets are acceptable.

Caps/hat/beanies/earmuffs/headbands/earrings

1.  Must be worn properly (bill forward)

2.  Must be GAA, or a solid uniform color, or from a college team (doesn’t include NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB)

3.  Worn outdoors only.  Hats must be taken off in the cafeteria, and all other indoor buildings as well as classrooms.  

4.  Beanies and earmuffs must be solid uniform color. Beanies and earmuffs cannot be of animals, mo-hawks, etc.

5. Headbands must be plain.  No animal ear headbands or ear muffs are allowed.

6. Tiaras are not allowed.

7. Dangling earrings or hoop earrings larger than a dime cannot be worn. Please see the Westside Union Parent/Student Handbook. 

Socks, Ties, Scarves, and Belts

1.  Must be solid colors including navy blue, burgundy, gray, white, black, or khaki. 

2.  No Logos or patterns are allowed.

Picture Days

Students must be in uniform for Fall Picture Day (Sept.25-27- see your child's teacher for exact date- they will only have 1 picture dtae)

Free dress is allowed on Spring Picture Day. Dates TBD

Gregg Anderson Spirit Wear Fridays

  1.   Every Friday is a GAA Spirit Wear Friday.

  2.   Spirit wear is defined as wearing a school spirit shirt. GAA spirit shirts include spirit wear purchased through        the PTA; 6th grade shirt; band shirt; or Move-a-Thon shirts.  

  3.   Solid blue jeans or uniform bottoms are allowed on GAA Spirit Wear Fridays when wearing a spirit shirt.  Otherwise, full uniforms are required.  Spirit shirts cannot be altered in any way. 

  4.   Jeans worn on GAA Spirit Wear Fridays must be blue denim. Jeans must be free of sequins, lace, holes, rips, or tears of any kind even if there is material underneath. Cut off shorts or frayed bottoms are not acceptable.

  5.  Uniform collared tops with denim bottoms are not allowed.

Denim/Blue Jeans

Denim is not allowed except for blue denim (pants, shorts, skirts) on GAA Spirit Fridays with a Spirit Shirt or on Free Dress Days. No black denim jeans on regular uniform days.

Free Dress Fridays

On the last Friday of every month, students who did not serve detention, or receive two or more tardies, or who were not assigned detention during the month are allowed to wear clothing of choice as long as it meets the district dress code.  See Parent/Student Handbook. 

Dates for Free Dress Fridays during the 2024-2025 School Year are as follows:  

8/30, 9/20, 10/25, 11/22, 12/20, 1/31, 2/28, 3/21, 4/25, 5/30, and 6/6

***Students who received more than two tardies, served or were assigned detention during the month must be dressed in school uniform (not spirit wear) on Free Dress Fridays.

No pajama bottoms are allowed except on the pajama day spirit days.

Special Shirt Days 2024-2025

On the dates below students may wear jeans or uniform bottoms and a special shirt. No accessories, headbands, dresses, hats or full outfits are allowed on these dates. 

During the month of October, students are invited to wear their favorite Halloween shirt on Friday 10/18/24, and Free Dress is on Friday 10/25/24. Students may wear their Halloween costume or Free Dress on Thursday 10/31/24.

During the month of December, students are invited to wear their favorite Holiday shirt on Friday 12/13/24 and Free Dress is on Friday 12/20/24.

Students are invited to wear their favorite Valentine’s Day shirt on Friday 2/14/2025,  and their favorite St. Patrick’s Day shirt on Monday 3/17/25. Students may wear Dr. Seuss shirts on 3/7/25. Themed accessories such as Santa Hats and Dr. Seuss Hats are not allowed on special theme dates. It is a special shirt day only.  All dates are subject to change.

6th graders

6th graders are allowed to wear college shirts on Thursdays. In addition, 6th graders may wear their 6th grade short sleeve shirts or spirit wear on GAA Spirit Fridays.

All Students

Students are encouraged to wear shoes and clothing that will enable them to participate in both classroom and playground activities.  Please be sure to have your child wear a jacket or sweater when the weather is cool.  Misplaced jackets and sweaters are more easily identified if they are labeled with your child's name; we encourage parents to “Label Everything.”  If your child does lose something, the Lost and Found is located on the playground by the handball courts.

Students must wear clothing that meets our uniform policy. School staff have the authority to deem any articles of clothing or shoes inappropriate for school.

Students have PE most days a week and recess twice a day.  Students must be dressed for PE and aware of the weather on these days and dress appropriately.  Remember to bring hats/caps and water bottles during warm/hot weather.

No heavy or costume make-up; dangling or large hoop earrings (larger than a dime); inappropriate jewelry; clothing advertising alcohol, drugs or displaying other inappropriate sayings; or other distracting or dangerous items are not to be worn to school.  A good rule of thumb in school dress is:  If in doubt, don't wear it.  School staff have the authority to deem appropriate clothing and earrings.

Hair must be of natural color, no hair designs or logos. See handbook and WUSD Dress Code.

Nails should not be longer than 1/2 inch and students should not wear accessories which pose a threat to the physical and/or emotional well-being and safety of the students or others on campus or at school activities.
